Audrey is the definition of above-and-beyond compassionate nursing. On this specific day, we had so many triages, but we had one come in from the clinic who needed extra care. Audrey jumped right in and quickly realized that her baby did not look good on the monitor. She jumped into action, trying to get the baby transferred to Le Bonheur, where she was supposed to deliver the week later. This patient’s baby had a severe genetic condition that needed NICU for survival. Audrey wasted no time in getting all the doctors on the phone. While calling to give report to the receiving hospital, the baby started to look worse. Audrey communicated this, which unfortunately caused the hospital to decide she may not be stable for transfer. The patient ended up in an urgent C-section. Audrey continued to care for this patient with tears streaming down her face.  Audrey cried with this patient and stayed with her well after her shift ended to make sure the baby came out ok. Audrey stated she felt so strongly about helping her because she knew what it was like to not know if your baby was going to die. She absolutely deserves this.
