Athira was a shining light during a hard time for my dad, me, and my family.
My father was admitted to Bedford Hospital, Russell Ward. During this time, he was diagnosed with untreatable cancer and later returned home for palliative care. During his five days on Russell Ward, Athira was one of the nurses we got to know well. Athira is warm and gentle, and it felt as though she took a special interest in my dad, coming over to talk with him and getting to know him as a person. She also checked in on me and my welfare as key support for my dad, and checked that I was okay, which I am grateful for.

Athira had a day off during dad’s time in the hospital, but made a point of coming to say goodbye at the end of their shift. When they returned to work, dad wasn’t one of the patients assigned to them, but they came over at the start of their shift to say hi, and we did still see them throughout the day, as if they’d made time to still check on my dad.

Athira was a shining light during a hard time for my dad, me, and my family. Her warm smile and genuine care made her a joy to be around, and she is hardworking and dedicated to her job.

Thank you to Athira for your dedication and for being someone we will remember in what has been a sad and difficult time for us. Dad passed away peacefully at home.

Thank you for doing what you do.
