She did an amazing job de-escalating the patient's fears and empathizing with his concerns
Asia has been an amazing resource and  nurse to our primary care clinics here at VA Boston. Asia goes above and beyond to ensure that our veteran and clinic needs are met. Her compassion and determination is always demonstrated in the quality of care she provides for our patients. Her hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed. We greatly value and appreciate her dedication to our veterans. When a veteran is in need or in a crisis, Asia makes sure to go above and beyond to ensure that their needs are addressed. Examples are described below: Asia received a message regarding a veteran who was in distress due to bowel concerns. Upon discussion with the veteran, Asia was informed that the veteran was experiencing elevated blood pressure and heart rate due to his current condition. The veteran informed Asia that he has been dealing with this issue for years, and it has worsened. However, he states that he has had a difficult time getting someone to listen to his concerns. The veteran is also living in a remote area close to the Canadian border. This posed as a burden to access urgent or emergency care for this veteran. Asia spent a few hours on the phone with this veteran to listen to his concerns, triage symptoms, discuss dietary changes, and help coordinate additional specialty care. The veteran additionally expressed that his ailment causes him to have significant anxiety. He worries that he will have suicidal ideations. He also feared having a stroke and or heart attack due to his condition. Asia made sure to provide mental health support to the veteran and discussed the importance of following up with mental health services for continuous support. She did an amazing job de-escalating the patient's fears and empathizing with his concerns. Asia went above and beyond to ensure that the patients' needs were addressed and that they received the support they needed. She spent an extensive amount of time supporting the veteran to prevent a mental health crisis. The patient expressed gratitude and was in relief that his concerns were understood and validated. Also, Asia cared for a veteran who was scheduled to see the provider in the clinic. Upon triage, Asia noticed that the patient was listed as deceased in the chart. Asia swiftly coordinated with eligibility to ensure that the patient's identity was verified and that his living status was corrected. The veteran was very concerned for his identity and care moving forward due to the discrepancy in his chart. Asia brought the veteran to the lab after his appointment to ensure that he would be able to have blood drawn due to this discrepancy. On the way to the lab, the veteran expressed that he was hungry and had not eaten for the day. Asia bought lunch for the veteran, who was greatly appreciative. These are just a few of the many examples of the compassion and dedication to care that Asia provides for our veterans. She is truly an exceptional nurse, and we are grateful to have her here at VA Boston!
