February 2026 Honoree
Ashley Wright 2026, BSN, RN
I was scrolling through social media when I came across a video posted by a patient’s mother. In the video, this nurse was dancing to a viral song with her young patient. At first glance, someone might simply see a lighthearted moment. But those of us who have spent years in healthcare understand that what was captured was far more profound. This nurse chose to use her free time during the day to intentionally lift the spirits of a child walking through some of her darkest days. During a bone marrow transplant admission, a time defined by isolation, fear, physical discomfort, and emotional strain, she created a moment of normalcy. She created joy. She created a connection.
We know that a patient’s mindset and outlook significantly impact outcomes. Healing is not only physical; it is emotional and psychological. This nurse understood that instinctively. She went beyond tasks, beyond clinical excellence, and beyond expectation. She nurtured this child’s livelihood and spirit, treating her holistically, not just as a diagnosis, but as a whole human being. The video was shared publicly by the child’s mother with the caption: “One of her favorite nurses.” The response was extraordinary.
The video received 1.1 million hearts and nearly 4,000 comments, many from families whose lives she has touched:
“She was one of my daughter’s favorite nurses during her bone marrow transplant stay!!!”
“She is the best!”
“That’s Luke’s favorite nurse! His Spidey Bestie!!!”
“Nurses like this will always go above and beyond for their patients. I love this!”
“The kind of nurse I aspire to be.”
“The dream of being this kind of nurse is getting me through Micro Bio RN!”
“This is why I wanna be an oncology/pediatric nurse.”
These comments tell a larger story. This is not an isolated moment for social media. This is who she is. Multiple families independently recognized her as their child’s favorite nurse. Future nurses cite her as the reason they want to join oncology and pediatrics. She is inspiring not only patients and families but the next generation of caregivers. In a profession that can often feel heavy, she reminds us why we do this work. She embodies compassion, presence, emotional intelligence, and excellence. She represents the very best of nursing, the kind of nurse families remember forever.
This nomination is not simply about a viral video. It is about sustained impact. It is about a nurse who consistently creates light in some of healthcare’s darkest spaces. She does not just care for patients. She changes experiences. She changes perspectives. She changes lives. I strongly and wholeheartedly recommend that this nomination be selected.
