Ashley always comes into work ready to tackle anything thrown her way. Her patient had been with us for several weeks, continuing to decline throughout her stay. The patient was limited to visiting time with family members due to personal circumstances. She spent most days of her ICU stay alone. During Ashley's shift with this patient, she began to decline significantly respiratory-wise. The patient voiced her concerns about being extremely scared. After following up with the practitioner and the patient's family, the patient decided to withdraw from care. A few hours after stopping treatment, she began passing quickly. Her family was unable to make the trip to be at her bedside during this time. Ashley then proceeded to play the worship music the patient had requested to hear. Ashley sat at the bedside and held her hand throughout the rest of her shift when time allowed. As morning approached, the patient passed away, all while Ashley provided the best possible patient comfort and care. Her devotion was inspiring to watch, and I have no doubts that her patient felt at peace in her final moments. I am grateful to work alongside someone as caring and compassionate as she is.
