We simply hope Ashley knows that her compassion, professionalism, endurance, and humanity changed our family forever.
We arrived by Life Flight at 2:00 a.m. after my father suffered a massive heart attack. From the moment we arrived, Ashley was there, and she saved his life many times over the course of those first critical hours. What unfolded that day left our family in absolute awe.

From approximately 2:00 a.m. until nearly 6:00 p.m., Ashley barely had a chance to step out of the room. Every minute was life and death. I found myself increasingly amazed that she simply kept going. Her stamina, focus, and unwavering dedication never faltered despite the relentless intensity of the situation.

Our family had made the difficult decision to do everything possible to save my father's life, and Ashley honored that decision completely. She fought for him with everything she had. Her dedication, combined with her willingness to respect our family's wishes, brought us a depth of gratitude that is difficult to put into words. This nomination could easily be for the entire team, but Ashley's extraordinary care deserves special recognition.

At one point, I watched members of the team bring her lunch. She barely had time to eat a few fries before she was called back to my father's bedside. She spent well over 14 hours on her feet, providing exceptional clinical care while never losing the personal touch that reminded us she truly cared about the man she was fighting to save. I found myself praying not only for my father's strength, but for Ashley's as well. My father is my best friend, and I knew she was giving everything she had to help him survive.

The following day, Ashley returned. Although the intensity was "only" about 12 hours instead of 14, she approached every moment with the same commitment, compassion, and professionalism. She has forever become part of our family's story. Had I found the courage, I would have asked to take a picture with her so she would always have a place in our family photo album.

Our gratitude extends to every member of the hospital staff—from the environmental services team, to the security officers, physicians, and administrators. Every person contributed to my father's care. But Ashley embodied something extraordinary. If this were a military nomination, I would say her actions deserved at least the Silver Star, if not the Medal of Honor. That is the level of sacrifice and dedication we witnessed over those two unforgettable days.

Ashley consistently placed her patient's needs above her own. She sacrificed her lunch break, her personal comfort, and countless opportunities to rest, never complaining and never losing her professionalism. She simply continued doing everything she could to save the life of someone she had never met before.

One moment has stayed with me ever since. When we asked Ashley for an honest assessment of my father's condition without sugarcoating anything, she responded with something close to, "I will believe whatever you tell me. If you tell me he's going to live, I'll work as hard for it as he will." That statement perfectly captured who she was. She gave us hope while remaining completely committed to the fight.

There were moments when my mother, overwhelmed by fear and exhaustion, may not have appeared appreciative. Ashley never took it personally. She continued caring for my father with the same kindness and compassion. When I later explained this to my mother, she immediately went home and baked cookies to thank Ashley. Unfortunately, Ashley never even had the opportunity to enjoy them.

Ashley also recognized something important about my father. Despite the maze of tubes, wires, and equipment, she worked constantly to keep everything organized while allowing him as much dignity and independence as possible. Rather than immediately restraining him, she simply told him, "If you don't hold still, I'll tie you down." She recognized his determination and trusted him to cooperate, even encouraging others not to restrain him because she believed he didn't need it.

Throughout those days, Ashley also graciously accommodated our large family. We knew we created additional challenges as so many relatives came to visit what many feared might be their last opportunity to see him. Despite the constant interruptions and already overwhelming workload, Ashley never complained. She made room for our family while continuing to provide extraordinary care.

While we spent those long days in the ICU waiting room, we were also trying to coordinate an ADA remodel of our home so my father could eventually return home if he survived. The waiting room was filled with worried families carrying burdens of their own. In the middle of all that uncertainty, Ashley reminded us that even during life's darkest moments, people who remain true to their values can profoundly change the lives of complete strangers.

Ashley did far more than care for my father. She changed our family's perspective on nurses, hospital staff, and even how we treat other people. We now find ourselves offering more smiles, more kindness, and more gratitude because of the example she set. She reminded us that every person we pass in a hospital hallway is carrying a burden of their own.

Our words will never fully express the gratitude we feel. We simply hope Ashley knows that her compassion, professionalism, endurance, and humanity changed our family forever.

Our hats are off to her. We salute her. Given the opportunity, we would gladly give her a standing ovation.
