Due to her persistence and advocacy for this patient and her infant, I truly believe that Ashley had a lifetime impact on this family's experience and the memories they will have of their infant.
The LDRP unit at South experienced a very challenging delivery in which a full-term infant required unexpected and extensive resuscitation efforts. The infant was transferred to the NICU at South and then ultimately to the NICU at the DT campus for full body cooling and continued care.
In the evening hours that same day, the mother of this infant received a call from the DT NICU informing her that the prognosis for her infant was grim and that they did not expect the infant to survive through the night. Ashley was here as a relief ANM that night, and in collaboration with the primary RN and the OBH, they started working toward getting the mother transferred DT so that she could be closer to her infant.
It is an unusual circumstance to transfer a stable mother to a higher level of care, but she was also too fresh from her surgery to be able to be safely discharged. Initially, upon calling the PCLC, the transfer was declined due to bed availability.
Ashley utilized her knowledge of the system and the DT campus, connected with the hospitalist and the charge nurses in both L&D and the MNB units, explained the gravity of the situation, and ultimately was able to arrange for the acceptance and transfer of the patient.

Because of Ashley's actions, these parents were able to see and hold their infant before he passed away, and there are simply no words to express how meaningful that had to have been for this family.
