Ashley Rakes, RN

I am nominating Ashley Rakes for the DAISY Award for her extraordinary empathy, advocacy, and patient care. During my stay, I tried repeatedly to explain that my IV was failing, but no one listened or changed it. As a result, sure enough, the IV failed, delaying my pain medication and leaving me in severe, unnecessary pain for several hours. I felt frustrated, overwhelmed, and completely unheard. That is when Ashley stepped in. She didn’t dismiss my distress or make excuses. Instead, she took the time to truly listen, validate my pain, and de-escalate a terrible situation. She looked me in the eyes and assured me that she was in my corner and would do everything possible to care for me and correct the situation, and she delivered! Ashley restored my trust at my most vulnerable moment; her willingness to listen and respect her patients represents the absolute best of nursing, and I am deeply grateful for her care. Thank you, Ashley, for finding a resolution for my situation and, at a time of intense frustration on my end, for letting me know you were hearing my concerns. You're awesome!
