Her kindness and willingness to fight for her patients and their families kept me going, and I will never be able to thank her enough.
Ashley was my grandma's nurse and was so caring and attentive to my grandma's needs. She respected our privacy as a family, yet would come if we even mentioned grandma's pain. My grandma went in with vomiting blood and we learned that her cancer was terminal. Ashley spoke to us about our options and going to bat for our grandma.

Grandma had been in a home hospice, and we wanted her to go from a home hospice to an inpatient hospice. Her at-home hospice would not change her discharge date from that Monday to the following Sunday. Zilber would not be able to take my grandma until the next day, but Ashley and my family knew my grandma's condition was critical. While I was on the phone coordinating with the former hospice, I had my phone on speaker, and the person in charge said that a person could not be in hospice and the hospital at the same time. So, Ashley, hearing this, came and started asking questions, and I was honestly relieved.

I was already grieving as I watched my grandma, who was unconscious and not responding to anyone. She would only grunt when she got in pain or needed to be repositioned. So, when Ashley convinced them to change the date so my grandmother could be transferred to Zilber. She made sure our family had everything we could need, including chairs, blankets, and drinks. Her kindness and willingness to fight for her patients and their families kept me going, and I will never be able to thank her enough.

Ashley knew that we would need a bigger room than what the ICU could hold for us, as we have a big family, and we all knew that eventually my grandma would pass away from pancreatic cancer. Ashley even stayed later to make sure grandma got on the transport to Zilber, and she hugged me and my mom. My grandma eventually passed away at Zilber's house, and we always talk about how amazing Ashley is and that there should be more nurses like her. Those who love their work and care about their patients and family.
