We met Arkayla when Mom was hospitalized. Mom is primarily Spanish-speaking. Much to our delight, our nurse comes into the room, introducing themself in Spanish! They continue in Spanish, explaining that they would be Mom’s nurse for the day. Mom was never happier. Even with their knowledge being limited in the Spanish language, they still persevered in communicating with Mom.

The recognition doesn’t stop there. They had a tender touch, listened to what mom was trying to communicate, and never faltered while trying to answer in Spanish. Language was not the only factor that separated Arkayla from others. Compassion and understanding always shone through. They took the time not only to explain to Mom before things were done, but also to the family, too. Sometimes we also needed some TLC, and Arkayla understood that.

They've cared for Mom a few times now, and we couldn’t be happier. They probably have no idea how much they are valued by patients and their family members. They take that extra step with their care and have a vast knowledge of suggestions for keeping mom comfortable. We aren’t happy when Mom is hospitalized, but knowing that Arkayla may be one of Mom’s nurses puts us at ease.
