I would like to recognize Aqeel because of the incredible care and compassion he showed me and my husband during my hospital stay. After being here for over two weeks, it’s easy to start feeling like just another patient on a long list. But he never made me feel that way.

From the moment he walked into the room, he brought this calm, reassuring energy that immediately lifted the mood. There’s something about his presence, a kind of quiet strength and kindness, that makes you feel like everything might actually be okay.

He didn’t just come in, check a few boxes, and leave. He sat with me and my husband, took the time to talk with us, and made sure we felt heard. He explained everything in a way that made sense and took the edge off my anxiety. I had been feeling really overwhelmed, but the way he walked me through the plan of care gave me confidence. For the first time in days, I felt like I could breathe a little easier.

What meant the most, though, was the way Aqeel treated me not just as someone who was sick, but as a whole person. He showed real empathy and respect. He never made me feel like a burden, even when I had questions or needed reassurance. He was patient, gentle, and completely genuine.

I’m nominating him not just because he’s incredibly knowledgeable and skilled at what he does, which he absolutely is, but because of the kind of person he is. His care went beyond medical treatment. He brought light into a really dark and difficult time, and I will never forget that.

He truly embodies what this award is about, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving.
