June 2026 Honoree
April Walton, RN
I am honored to recognize April for the extraordinary care she provided to me before my heart catheterization. From the moment April entered my room as my preoperative nurse, she transformed what was one of the most frightening days of my life into an experience filled with comfort, compassion, and confidence.
I was extremely anxious about the procedure, but April took the time to explain every step of the process thoroughly, reassuringly, and in a way that was easy to understand. Her extensive education and patient-centered approach to care helped calm my fears and gave me a sense of control during a very vulnerable time.
One thing that particularly stood out was her incredible skill when accessing my port. What could have been a stressful and uncomfortable experience was handled with such expertise and precision that it seemed effortless. Her clinical excellence was immediately evident.
But what made her truly exceptional was the genuine compassion she showed throughout my care. April didn't just care for me medically; she cared for me as a person. She “loved on me” when I needed it most, offering kindness, encouragement, and emotional support that went far beyond her job description.
She made me laugh during a terrifying situation, bringing light and joy into a moment that was otherwise filled with fear. Her warmth and sense of humor helped ease my anxiety more than words can express.
What touched me most was what happened after her shift ended. Even after she had clocked out for the day. April took the time to check on me in recovery. She didn't have to do that, but she did because she genuinely cared about my well-being.
That simple act spoke volumes about the kind of nurse and person she is. It demonstrated a level of dedication, compassion, and commitment that is truly extraordinary.
April exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents: clinical excellence, compassion, kindness, advocacy, and a profound commitment to her patients. I will never forget the difference she made during one of the most difficult days of my life. Because of her, I felt seen, cared for, and safe.
I am deeply grateful for April and wholeheartedly believe she deserves this recognition.
