April is the kind of leader who makes you feel safe, seen, and supported. She will always go to bat for us.
It's hard to put into words exactly what makes April such an exceptional nurse leader because the truth is, there isn't just one story or one time that defines her. She is not "DAISY Worthy" because of one singular heroic act- She's DAISY worthy because of how she shows up every single day.
It's the way she leads with heart, fully, no matter what is going on in her own life. She advocates for us fiercely and creates a culture we're proud to be part of. She is the kind of leader who never hesitates to jump in, whether it's to help with a crashing patient, navigate a staffing crisis, or even help a patient to the bathroom while everyone is busy giving report.
April is the kind of leader who makes you feel safe, seen, and supported. She will always go to bat for us. She depends on her team when it matters most, whether it's with staffing issues, other departments, or in moments when the nurses feel voiceless. Because of her, we know we always have someone in our corner.
Her support isn't passive; it's active and constant. What also sets April apart is the culture she's created. Our unit is fully staffed not because of luck but because nurses want to work her. Nurse stay because they fell seen heard and valued under her leadership and that is rare. She fosters an environment where we're encouraged to speak our minds and where our thoughts and opinions matter.
She encourages growth, celebrates development, and makes sure we know we belong. She listens, advocates, and she shows up. During the height of COVID, April wasn't watching from the sidelines. She was right there with us, elbow deep in some of the hardest days we've ever worked.
She put on the same PPE, faced the same fear, exhaustion, and heartbreak, and never once did we feel alone in it. She had our backs through it all. During that time, she didn't just lead us, she led with us.
