I am honored to nominate April Hinks for the DAISY Award for the exceptional care she provided to my mother during her hospitalization at Mayo Clinic Arizona. My mother was admitted with multiple complex medical concerns, and our family had already endured some discouraging experiences at other hospitals. By the time April became her nurse, we were exhausted and simply hoping for steady, compassionate care. What we received from April was far beyond our expectations. From the start of her shift, April demonstrated extraordinary clinical expertise, confidence, and attentiveness. With 14 years of experience at Mayo Clinic, she carried herself with calm assurance. She anticipated needs, carefully monitored my mother's condition, and explained each step of care in a way that gave both my mother and our family clarity and peace. Her knowledge was evident, but her heart truly set her apart.

April went above and beyond not only for my mother but also for our entire family. She took time to answer our questions thoroughly and patiently. She listened. She reassured us. She treated us as partners in my mother's care, not as bystanders. In a time filled with uncertainty, she created stability. What impacted us most was her decision to come in on a day she was scheduled to be off so that my mother could have continuity of care. She understood how important consistency was during such a vulnerable time and chose to show up for her anyway. That act of selflessness speaks volumes about her character and dedication. She remained present, attentive, and fully engaged throughout the day, ensuring my mother felt safe and supported. April exemplifies the values the DAISY award represents. She did not simply perform her duties. She delivered care with empathy, integrity, and excellence. Our family will always be grateful for the difference she made during one of the most difficult seasons of our lives. April Hinks truly deserves this recognition.
