April told the patient not to worry—she would be getting off work in a couple of hours, and that she would bring it to her. That is exactly what she did. The patient was so grateful for the returned items.

We had an elderly patient discharged back to her long-term care facility. This patient was transferred by an ambulance service. The patient realized after being transferred that she had left behind a piece of heirloom jewelry and a Life Alert device. According to the patient, she had called the unit almost daily until April answered the phone. April listened to her story, apologized that no one had helped her, and asked if she could investigate the issue. After the patient agreed, April was able to locate the missing items in a package that was placed into a drawer and forgotten.

April called the patient back. The patient was so happy that she had the items but was very upset because she did not know how she would get them since she was not able to drive. The patient began crying because she was afraid the facility would charge her if they found out the Life Alert was missing. April told the patient not to worry—she would be getting off work in a couple of hours and that she would bring it to her. That is exactly what she did. The patient was so grateful for the returned items.

When April told me about this, I had to nominate her. This is not the first time she has gone out of her way to help others. This is just the first time I am writing in. I think that it would warm her enormous heart to know that she is appreciated, although she will never know how much!

Note: This is April's 2nd DAISY Award!
