March 2026 Honoree
Antonio Dizon, RN
I brought my son (18 months) to a doctor’s appointment, and the doctor sent us to receive IV fluids. While we were there, Antonio Dizon was the Registered Nurse caring for my son in the Adult Primary Care Unit H.
From the moment Antonio began observing my son, I saw his compassion and could truly feel how much he cared for my baby. He noticed that he was breathing very fast and immediately began asking me detailed questions. Antonio remained attentive and concerned, and after speaking with a colleague, he reached out to the doctor he had seen earlier. Because of Antonio’s advocacy, the doctor approved a breathing treatment.
Even after the treatment was completed, Antonio continued to check on him. He looked genuinely worried about my son’s rapid breathing and did not dismiss his symptoms. He consulted with another colleague, and together they recommended that he be taken to the emergency room immediately.
An ambulance was called, and throughout the entire process, Antonio stayed nearby, reassuring me and helping me remain calm by telling me everything would be okay. Thanks to Antonio’s persistence and quick action, my son was transported to the ER in Santa Clara, where he stayed for three days receiving the care he needed.
If it hadn’t been for Antonio’s attentiveness, advocacy, and dedication, I truly believe my son would have continued struggling to breathe, and his treatment could have been dangerously delayed, with a very different outcome.
I will forever be grateful for Antonio Dizon. His compassion, professionalism, and commitment to my son’s well-being made all the difference. He truly exemplifies what it means to be an exceptional nurse and is more than deserving of recognition through the DAISY Award.
