Antoinette Downie, RN CV-BC

Antoinette is the best caregiver I have ever experienced. Although I would say all the nurses I have encountered at Sayre are great, Antoinette is amazing! She was not only a nurse but a true caregiver. In past years, I have been to six different hospitals and can honestly say she was not only the best, but critical to my care. I was impressed by her focus on patient care, her leadership, dedication, and compassion. She took charge and did not hesitate to collaborate with other staff, myself, and family members to make sure the care was spot on. She set expectations and remained kind and professional to ensure those expectations were met. She was not above changing bedding, getting supplies, or whatever was needed.

The day before my bypass surgery, the unit was a bit slow, and she wasn't even the nurse assigned to me, but she took the time to talk with me about the surgery, the process, and what to expect afterward. She made sure that my wife and I were educated throughout the whole process. She eased so much stress and fear of the unknown. I was blessed to have her as my nurse for the majority of my stay. I remember one day after my surgery when she wasn't my nurse; the next day, she was. When she greeted me, she noticed an improvement and was genuinely happy for me. Her face showed pride and joy. A true caregiver is more than meeting basic needs. She individualized my care and stated that everyone is different. She was attentive to my interactions and provided individual attention. If she saw fear, confusion, or concern, she stopped and made sure my mental and physical needs were met. Not once did my wife or I see her take a break on her phone or get caught up in chatter. I recommend Antoinette without hesitation for the DAISY Award. J. Patrick Barnes would be proud to know that nurses such as Antoinette are part of our nursing community.
