Anthony is a nurse who always goes above and beyond to make his patients feel comfortable. Anthony cared for this particular patient for multiple days in a row. She was a chronic trach patient from a nursing home who was only 47 years old. Anthony worked multiple shifts, doing his best to help keep her comfortable. She made the difficult decision to move to comfort care and liberate herself from the ventilator. He assisted with arranging for the family to come to the bedside and help support the patient. Today, the patient had plans to be vent liberated and move towards hospice. Once all the family was at the bedside and things were being prepared to remove the ventilator, the patient made one last request to Anthony. She asked if she could go outside one last time to see the sunshine. She has been in a nursing home for over a year and was unable to go outside due to ventilator needs. Anthony moved swiftly with the care team to make arrangements to fulfill this wish. Patient was transported outside on the transport vent with all of her family members for 20 minutes and was able to enjoy the sunshine. He assisted in getting water for the family and even went to the lengths of calling security to have the parking lot closed for this short time so that the family could truly spend time with their loved one. The smile on this patient's face brought tears to everyone's eyes. He truly went above and beyond to fulfill her last wish before passing away. Great job, Anthony!
