Ans Mathew
George Mathew
My son was in Pediatric Surgery (PS) for 8 days when I saw Ans for the first time. My son was initially diagnosed with folliculitis bacterial infection and impetigo. Swabs were taken and sent to Microbiology. TBM was negative, and he was getting treatment for 8 days.
The nurse on duty noticed that the BP was low. The doctors on duty from the Paediatric Medical Ward considered it dehydration and gave a fluid bolus until the last result came. At this critical stage, Ans Mathew came to our ward from PICU and very actively, skilfully put a new cannula to draw blood for laboratory tests, and I cannot forget how promptly she arranged an immediate capillary test.
She was continuously monitoring my son and still did not panic. Her presence of mind and knowledge were visible as she suggested to the PM doctors regarding the lab tests. She ran from the ward to the places around a number of times to get the lab results ASAP, to get the medicines, and even suggested Dr. R, who came from PICU to the PM ward. She suggested that he start the medication without any delay until the PICU room was ready to admit my son, as she noticed that my son's condition was deteriorating.
I remember she was very prompt, active, skillful, and was on her toes for 5 to 6 hours from 11 pm to 5 am, from the PS ward to the PICU, doing the best that she could to assist the doctors to get my son out of the septic shock that was the cause of hypotension. My son’s BP was falling from 50 to 40 to 30. It was a serious paediatric emergency. Nurse Ans Mathew was determined to see his BP rise and did her job very systematically and intelligently managed the situation.
I feel she is very sincere, dedicated, hardworking, responsible, talented, and does her duty not just as work but as a passion. I felt like Almighty Allah sent Nurse Ans to provide His help in the form of medical treatment to bring my son back to life.
