Anne brought the patient out of the cold and to the County Crisis Unit, where she would receive much-needed care.
It is an exceptional nurse who seeks a career pathway in Behavioral health.

At MarinHealth, our BH nurses literally help patients survive when they are at their very worst. The role of our Behavioral Health (BH) nurses is invaluable; they have a crucial role in caring for a very vulnerable and stigmatized population in the healthcare industry.

BH Nursing is complex and gratifying, with one overarching goal: good patient outcomes and helping our patients gain or regain control of their lives, which allows them to lead better lives.

They help patients regain good living skills, manage symptoms, and find their inner strength in the face of addictions, disorders, disabilities, and societal stigmas, which, at times, may seem unconquerable and darn near impossible. BH Nurses, like Anne Reiss, possess a unique set of qualities that make them exceptional in their field.

Their compassion and acute sensitivity to the struggles of BH patients are unparalleled. They also excel in communication and relationship building, crucial skills that enable them to provide the best possible care. Anne Reiss is a nurse who goes above and beyond her duties daily, as described by her job description. Her dedication and commitment to her role were evident in a recent incident.

We discharged a patient to a lower level of BH care; she was picked up by an UBER driver to go to a facility in Solano County. Enroute to the receiving facility, the patient opened the door to the UBER and ran away. Our BH team was notified immediately and even through this patient had been discharged from our care, the Team was understandably concerned about the patient's whereabouts.

The appropriate authorities were notified, and there were several reported sightings of the patient during the evening, but the patient was not found. Early the following day, Anne spotted the patient sitting at a bus stop, shivering and hungry. Anne stopped her car and asked the patient if she could assist.

The patient initially denied needing help, to which Anne was able to convince the patient that she needed to come inside for warmth and a hot meal. Thankfully, the patient agreed. Anne brought the patient out of the cold and to the County Crisis Unit, where she would receive much-needed care.

Anne Reiss deserves this prestigious DAISY award, an honor that recognizes nurses for their exceptional care and compassion. Anne's exceptional communication skills and her innate ability to help this patient through a very difficult and stressful time make her the epitome of a DAISY nurse.

Imagine sleeping at a bus stop overnight, with only the clothes on your back.

Anne is, without a doubt, an asset to our team! Her actions exemplify the values of our organization, seeing our patients as deserving human beings who warrant compassionate care and respect.

Thank you, Anne, for being the wonderful nurse that you are!
