Realizing that my concern was hindering my healing, Nurse Anne took the time to make arrangements for me to visit with my brother in the Cancer Unit.
I was a patient at the White building, Floor 7, for 4 days. I would like to nominate Nurse Anne Borden, my day nurse for 3 days on that unit, for the DAISY Award. I found Nurse Anne to be extremely helpful as she guided me through the confusing and painful process of acclimating myself following a traumatic emergency surgery. As an example of how Nurse Anne expressed her concern for my emotional needs as well as for my physical health, I would like to relate the following story. Prior to my unexpected surgery, I had been staying with my brother 24/7 on the MGH Cancer Unit of the Lunder building to support him as he dealt with newly-diagnosed Leukemia. After staying for 12 days, I suddenly became extremely ill and was rushed down to the Emergency Room for surgery. As my physical health improved, I became more aware of what had happened to me. I found myself missing my brother and wondering how he was faring with his cancer treatments. Realizing that my concern was hindering my healing, Nurse Anne took the time to make arrangements for me to visit with my brother in the Cancer Unit. She then escorted me in a wheelchair across to Lunder to visit my brother.
