She was concerned about his neutropenia status and having exposure in the ER. She stayed until the entire unit of blood was infused. We are so grateful for her kindness, calmness, teaching, and compassion.
My husband was very nervous about his first infusion therapy visit. Our son brought him and stayed with him until I was able to arrive later in the day. I was pleasantly surprised to see how at ease he looked when I walked in the door. Although they had just met, he and Anna talked like they were old friends. He had Anna as his nurse for the next two visits. Each visit had its own set of issues that caused delays in his treatment. Anna took the time to not just apologize for delays but did extraordinary teaching with both of us. She helped us understand the normal process of his treatment schedule and provided education about the meds he was receiving and all of the symptoms and follow-up care to look for.
On one of the visits, he needed a blood transfusion. Because of his treatment type, there was a delay with the type and screen. We went home and returned later in the evening, fully anticipating that he would receive the blood in the ER. Anna called us when we were on our way back to the hospital and told us she was staying past her shift so that he would receive the blood in the infusion department.
