We were unable to be with her during this time so Anna took the time to go in and sit with Nan so she wasn't alone, held her hand, and explained to her about her husband.
Anna is a wonderful nurse who goes above and beyond for her patients and their families. At the end of November, our grandfather was admitted to ICU for Respiratory Distress, PNA, and COVID. Anna cared for him during his stay in ICU. While he was admitted he ended up on a ventilator. During this time his wife, our grandmother, was also admitted for Respiratory Distress, PNA, and COVID. She was on another unit initially but then transferred to ICU the day Pap was intubated. When she was transferred, Anna also cared for her as well.
One day while caring for Nan she brushed her hair to make her feel pretty. This was something that was so special to Nan as she always worried about her hair and Anna took the time to fix this for her. Nan ended up needing a ventilator as well. The day Nan was intubated, our Pap, unfortunately, lost his battle with COVID. Anna continued to care for our Nan throughout her stay in the ICU.
During both of their stays, Anna provided them with excellent care as well as communicated updates to our families 2-3 times a day since we were unable to be with our family. Nan was able to come off the ventilator after 10 days. After she was taken off, Anna took the time to get her the one thing she kept asking for, a frosty. She made it possible for us to Zoom with her as well the day after she was extubated as this was also Nan's Birthday. After the Zoom call, Nany was upset and kept asking about Pap. We were unable to be with her during this time so Anna took the time to go in and sit with Nan so she wasn't alone, held her hand, and explained to her about Pap. She stayed with Nan until she had calmed down and it was ok for her to leave her.
The compassion she has shown our entire family during this horrific time was appreciated more than we can say. She eased our minds knowing she was here and caring for them since we could not be with them. She truly is a wonderful nurse and we cannot thank her enough for the excellent care she provided our grandparents during their stay.
Note: This is Anna's 2nd DAISY Award!
