Anja Glassner, RN

After having spent 12 days at SMH NICU, then approximately one week at Nicklaus PICU, and now going on two weeks at 3 North, we have had the pleasure of meeting many kind and wonderful nurses. However, we felt the need to point out one truly special nurse, one that stands out in her talent, excellence, and no-nonsense demeanor, and that’s Anja. She is truly exemplary and the type of nurse a hospital with Nicklaus’ reputation warrants.

Anja has eased many of our burdens during this incredibly stressful time. Her love for her job and concern for her patients is evident, and she goes above and beyond to support her patients’ families as well.

Just to mention a few of the things that stand out, Anja takes the time to get to know her patient and their family in order to try to meet their needs during the most stressful time of their lives. She carefully listens to their concerns and makes appropriate reassurances and even thoughtful recommendations.

Surprisingly, she is the only nurse who has taken the time to bathe my grandson and change his bed sheets, and she did this every single day on the days we’ve had the good fortune to have her. She always walks in with a smile and the positivity we so need at this time.

She always performed full assessments on Jesse and has shockingly been the only nurse in all our time at Nicklaus who has bothered to flush my grandson's locked IV. She’s always on time with glucose checks and formula when it’s time for him to feed, and she even took the time to come by to check in on him last Friday when she was off duty but in the hospital for personal reasons.

We truly enjoyed watching her interact with our tiny baby. It’s so clear that she loves what she does.

Lastly, Anja’s experience is invaluable, and she is a role model I wish my son, who is currently in FIU Nursing School, could learn from. She is the type of nurse that reminds me of my own training and what was expected at a time when nursing was so much more than just administering meds and charting.

Anja embodies true compassion and is the ultimate professional, and we can’t thank her enough for expertly caring for our tiny baby during his stay at Nicklaus.
