Angie was a nurse assigned to me during my final semester of nursing school, and we spent 7 night shifts together completing my practicum. Over the course of those night shifts, Angie taught me what it meant to be a compassionate, thorough, dedicated LRH nurse. One morning, when it was 6 am, and we could barely keep our eyes open on our third day that week, we heard a bed alarm going off, jolting us up from our caffeine-induced haze at the nurses' station. We found a confused, Spanish-speaking patient attempting to get out of bed. Instead of panicking or being frustrated at the patient, Angie was patient, kind, and able to resolve the situation. She used her phone to dial the translator, kneeled down by the patients bedside, and asked the patient to explain what was going on. She reoriented the patient to her hospital room, explained the safety precautions, and was able to tuck her back into bed. She could have put the patient back in bed and left it for the nurse assigned to that room, but she didn’t. Angie went above and beyond not only that night, but every night we spent together. I'm so thankful to have had such an amazing preceptor, and the staff is blessed to have such an amazing nurse.
