I would like to nominate Angela, RN in the ED, for her extraordinary care, compassion, and professionalism she demonstrated during one of the scariest moments of my life. I came into the ER late one evening with severe chest pain and shortness of breath. From the moment Angela walked into my room, I felt seen, heard, and safe. She had a warm smile and gently placed a reassuring hand on my arm, and explained everything that was happening in a way that made me feel less afraid. I could tell she was monitoring every detail, my breathing, my vital signs, and how I was reacting to the medication, but never once did I feel like I was "just another patient". At one point, when I began to panic about the possibility of a heart attack, Angela stopped what she was doing and told me, "I was not alone; we are going to take care of you". That moment meant everything to me. Throughout my time in the ER, Angela balanced incredible clinical skills with empathy. She was constantly in motion, communicating with the doctors, starting an IV, and taking my blood, but still made time to explain everything that was happening to me and my family, and answered all of our questions. It wasn't just the medical care that made a difference but the humanity behind it. I truly believe Angela was the reason I was able to stay calm and get through the experience with strength and hope. She exemplifies what nursing is all about - compassion, excellence, and healing. Thank you, Angela, for being my advocate, my caregiver, and my calm in the storm.
