Angela let me cry on her shoulder at 3 am for about 30 minutes about me not having my babies in my room with me.
After delivering twins by emergency C-section at 30 weeks and them going to the NICU, I was a wreck. I had to be put on a magnesium drip for severe postpartum preeclampsia. I had Angela that night as my nurse, and she made hourly blood pressure checks tolerable with her humor and compassion. She would wake me as gently as possible. When my blood pressure was coming down, she would praise me by saying “slay,” and “yes, queen” to get me to laugh. It made being alone that night and being woken up hourly better. She also stayed with me a few times when I was emotional and held my hand. I had Angela again that next night and instantly knew I was in good hands and felt relieved to see her. When I had to call her for help to get to the bathroom, as I still could not walk well and was in pain, she also helped me wipe and clean myself up without ever making me feel judged or embarrassed. Besides physically helping me while being such a gentle, lovely person, Angela held me while I cried more than once. One of the times I had to call to use the bathroom, Angela was in another mother’s room when she answered and said she’d be with me soon. I heard that other baby cry as they had their baby with them. Angela let me cry on her shoulder at 3 am for about 30 minutes about me not having my babies in my room with me. I was hospitalized for 10 days prior to giving birth and 5 days after. Out of all of the nurses that were specifically my nurses (not my sons’ nurses in the NICU), Angela had the biggest impact on my time in the hospital. I gave birth eight months ago, and I still think about Angela often and how much she helped me through the toughest time in my life with her care, compassion, humor, and kindness. She is an amazing human and an exemplary nurse who deserves all the best in life. Thank you, Angela, for helping me physically, mentally, and emotionally. You took care of me in every way while I was at my lowest, with the best care I’ve ever received. You will always have a special place in my heart.
