Sunday, I was in the hospital visiting my mom when my father’s memory care facility called to say my dad had fallen, hit his head, and needed to come to the ER. I met my dad downstairs. My dad has dementia, was very confused, and was very hard to handle. Nurse Andy did such a great job connecting with my dad as a fellow veteran. He was so patient. My dad tried to leave the ER bay, tried to pull his IV out, was aggressive, and nurse Andy helped with all of it. He turned off the lights to try to calm him, put him in the wheelchair to try to “change the situation” and make him more comfortable. Andy was so busy, but it never made us feel unimportant and still provided my dad the best care and respect. Andy made a very tough situation for an out-of-state daughter with two parents in the hospital much easier. Andy was also in the ER when my mom came in. I was not there yet, but I am sure it went great as well.
