Andy has one of the most refreshing and encouraging approaches to leadership. His ability to see potential in people, instill trust, afford respect, and foster growth is the direct reason for many of my professional successes.
Andy is a CRNA and the Administrator for the Anesthesia Department. Although Andy’s titles may suggest he works solely within an anesthesia role, that is simply not the case. His leadership reaches across Anesthesia, Perfusion, Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), and Central Document Processing (CDP) for legacy LVHN. He is my direct senior leadership for legacy PAT and CDP.

I have been in the network for 18 years. During my time at LVHN, I have had a few bosses, but I have only ever had one leader, and that is Andy. When reviewing the criteria for this award, every line reads as if someone is intentionally describing him. The three criteria that resonate most deeply with me regarding Andy are:
  • Creating an environment where attributes of trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development, and ethical behavior are modeled and supported
  • Encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving for individuals and teams
  • Remaining accessible, available, and responsive to the needs of others
Andy has one of the most refreshing and encouraging approaches to leadership. His ability to see potential in people, instill trust, afford respect, and foster growth is the direct reason for many of my professional successes. Andy gives me the room to spread my wings and fly. He encourages open discussion, listens intently, and is approachable. I have never been afraid to ask Andy anything.

Specifically for PAT, my team of nurses and APCs cover 15 of the 16 legacy LVHN surgical sites—our reach is expansive. If it were not for Andy’s belief in me, both personally and professionally, I would not have the tools or confidence to lead such an incredible team.

Although Andy wears many hats as the Administrator for Anesthesia, the leader for Perfusion, PAT, and CDP, and regularly works as a CRNA in the hectic CC ORs, he still finds time to respond to any email or text I send. He is never too busy.

I have often said that Andy should teach a class on how to be a leader. He is outstanding. I wholeheartedly believe everyone should have an “Andy” as their leader.
