I would like to recognize Drew Batten for his extraordinary compassion, professionalism, and patient-centered care he demonstrated during a challenging AMA situation. Drew was caring for a patient who was determined to leave the hospital despite significant concerns regarding their health and safety. Throughout the interaction, Drew remained calm, patient, and respectful, even as emotions ran high. He took the time to listen to the patient, address their concerns, and clearly explain the risks associated with leaving AMA. His communication was honest, compassionate, and focused on helping the patient make an informed decision.

What stood out most was Drew's genuine concern for the patient's well-being. He did not simply complete the required paperwork and move on. Instead, he made every effort to ensure the patient understood the potential consequences of leaving and encouraged them to stay and continue treatment. He balanced empathy with professionalism, demonstrating kindness while also providing clear and appropriate guidance.

Despite the difficulty of the situation, Drew handled it with remarkable grace, patience and respectful authority. He treated the patient with dignity, maintained a calm presence, and exemplified the highest standards of nursing care. His actions reflected a deep commitment to advocacy, compassion, and excellence, ensuring the patient felt heard and cared for even when making a difficult decision. Drew's ability to navigate this challenging encounter with such professionalism and heart is a true example of the difference nurses make every day. He embodies the qualities recognized by the DAISY Award.

Thank you, Andrew, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
