The outpatient wound care team cared for a patient with an extensive scalp wound. The patient had a squamous skin cancer lesion removed from the top of her head. During her first visit, she had voiced concerns about going to her grandson's graduation and having to wear a baseball cap to cover the area. She wasn't going to be able to fix her hair.

They cared for this patient on this first visit. So, when the patient came in for her second visit, they had a gift for her. They had already arranged for a rep to be here with a donated skin substitute to hopefully speed up the wound healing. But they also had gotten the patient a very nice wig that the patient would be able to wear to her grandson's graduation.

They are a nurse who cares for their patients' mind, body, and spirit. I was in the room when this was taking place. The patient and her spouse were speechless regarding the kindness that was shown by their nurse. They care for their patients with their heart and soul.

This is just one of those times that makes a leader proud to have someone like them on our team.
