Despite the highly complex setting, she always took moments to show small human gestures, be it through a reassuring conversation, a laying on of the hand, or simply through her sincere presence at the bedside.
I would like to nominate Andrea Graupe for the DAISY Award because she demonstrates an exceptional blend of expertise, empathy, and humanity in her daily work in the intensive care unit with ECMO patients.

Caring for critically ill people who are dependent on ECMO therapy requires the utmost concentration, professional precision, and emotional stability. Andrea keeps a cool head even in the most challenging situations - be it acutely life-threatening complications or hours of close monitoring. She radiates calm and security - for patients as well as their relatives and the entire team.

I was particularly impressed by how lovingly and respectfully Andrea treated a patient who had been on ECMO for days. Despite the highly complex setting, she always took moments to show small human gestures, be it through a reassuring conversation, a laying on of the hand, or simply through her sincere presence at the bedside.

She was also a rock for the relatives. She took her time, explained, listened and gave hope - without false promises, but with a lot of heart. It was clear to see that these were not “cases” for her, but people with stories, fears, and hopes.

I am deeply impressed by the passion, professionalism, and warmth with which Andrea does her job. Care at this level is more than just work - it is real dedication. It's people like this who make the difference. That's why I think Andrea is a true DAISY Nurse.
