She not only got through to her and calmed her, but also massaged her face for over half an hour.
My 7-year-old daughter was suffering from staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome, and was not only in extreme pain, but delirious and unable to accept that she wasn't allowed to pick out her "eye gunk," which was in fact her peeling skin clumping at the corners of her eyes. My wife was stuck in an escalating argument with her daughter about it. Nurse Ana politely suggested Mom and Dad step out of the room for a bit. Then she made a deal with my daughter that she would massage her face, which was sore and peeling, with Vaseline if my daughter accepted that she couldn't pick her eye gunk. She not only got through to her and calmed her, but also massaged her face for over half an hour. By the time we got back, she had even gotten her to go to sleep. It was incredible. To be clear, the entire nursing staff in Sea Horse 3 East was fantastic, but this performance stood out. She was calm under pressure, effective in an impossible situation, and brought much-needed relief to our daughter during the worst week of her life.
