Amy is a coworker of mine, and today one of her patients came out of a debridement and skin graft surgery on one of her legs into PACU, where Amy was her nurse. When the patient was getting to a point where she was getting closer to being discharged, Amy tried to get her up to teach her to use a walker. The patient was extremely unstable and unable to lift herself up on one foot from a sitting position to be able to stand to try to use the walker. She put in a physical therapy consult, and they were able to get the patient up and walking. However, the main struggle was the patient getting up from a sitting position. The patient's family had bought a "lift chair" to make it easier for this patient at home, but said they couldn't get a delivery until Saturday. Amy took it upon herself to call her husband and son and arranged for them to drive to Big Sandy Superstore to pick up this chair, and drive it to the patient's house for her so that she wouldn't have to get admitted and could go home today with the chair waiting for her.
