Her ability to think on her feet to solve a huge medicinal problem saved me much pain!
I was admitted to the ER with severe shortness of breath; I was dying. I dialed 911, and the guys got there in 8 minutes. The ER staff took great care of me, but I was still a patient at 2:35 AM. Amy had been my nurse all night. I'd been running her ragged, literally, this whole shift! I can only describe her as angelic! Not just how she took care of my every need while staying the most friendly, tolerable, amiable soul in this whole facility, but a constant problem solver as well. That is what my nomination for her is about. Her ability to think on her feet to solve a huge medicinal problem saved me much pain! When I arrived at the ER, I was wheezing, panting, and moaning so quickly and constantly that you could hardly understand anything I said. Trying to list for them all the medications I was taking was a very daunting task. Then, when it came to the pain management regime I've been on for years, it got worse. This is a simple list, but not with my very stressed vocal chords at that point. The attending and I had a bit of a language barrier, and the first thing he did was reduce my medication that was not effective. I also tried to explain that a prolonged pre-authorization process put me into six days of withdrawal upon my arrival. I finally got clear of this debacle that night as Amy came on her shift and became the only person who understood my dilemma! She spoke to the physician on call and explained the miscommunication in the ER. I got him to consult with the admitting physician. And things were righted. Amy returned to the room with the correct meds and saved my comfort! The doctors saved my life, while Amy saved my soul and made my stay here be more like home!
