April 2026 Honoree
Amy Krause, BSN, RN, CPN
I have a spinal cord injury that has been causing major problems with my bowel management. As one can guess, this has been extremely taxing on my physical, emotional, and mental health. I have hit a breaking point this year; I feel embarrassed and isolated with this particular ailment. At 25, I never thought I would be here. I came into my appointment incredibly defeated and overwhelmed. Without even saying I was overwhelmed, Amy recognized it. When the doctors and surgeons left, she stayed. She sat in the chair next to me and explained everything in a way that felt more hopeful, even showing me a video. She kept asking if I had any questions about the next course of action we decided on. I felt completely seen and safe to show how much I was struggling. She wrote detailed notes and assured me of our next steps. I feel much more confident and hopeful, but I wouldn't be if Amy hadn't been there. She went above and beyond even though she just met me.
Thank you, Amy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
