It is with great admiration and respect that I nominate Amy Herrera for the DAISY Award. Amy exemplifies the true essence of compassionate and patient-centered care. 

Recently, Amy demonstrated extraordinary advocacy for a patient who faced a deeply complex and sensitive situation. This patient was preparing for discharge but was at risk of returning to a toxic environment with a previously abusive partner. Recognizing the gravity of this situation, Amy made it her priority ot ensure the patient felt empowered and supported. 

Amy created a safe and trusting space where the patient could speak openly about her fears and concerns. She reassured the patient that her voice mattered and that she was not alone in this journey. Amy listened attentively, validating the patient’s feelings, and ensured that every step of the discharge planning process prioritized the patient’s physical and mental well-being. 

Not only did Amy provide unwavering emotional support, but she also collaborated with the patient to develop a comprehensive and safe discharge plan. Amy’s dedication and proactive approach ensured that the patient left the hospital equipped with resources, strategies, and a renewed sense of hope.

Amy is the definition of “Be the nurse you want to work with.” Her empathy, professionalism, and commitment to her patients inspire all of us who have the privilege of working alongside her.
