August 2026 Honoree
Amy Crandall, RN
My nurse, Amy, was my "angel on earth" nurse. I am 90-years-old and had three stents placed two years ago. I was recently taken to the ER with a BP of 226, and they ran a myriad of tests. Everything came back normal. The only abnormal result was my low sodium. The following Tuesday night, I was not feeling well. It felt like my body had fireworks going off in it. My husband brought me to the ER again, and they admitted me to the hospital with more testing and paperwork.
My nurse, Amy, came in with a positive attitude and a loving, caring voice, asking me what had happened. She looked me in the eyes and listened to my concerns. Amy's presence was so calm and joyful. She was four weeks away from giving birth, probably had a lot of her own concerns, and yet she shared her love for people, appreciation of medicine, trust in humanity, and never questioned my concerns. She was there to support. My family arrived, and she greeted them with such kindness, respect, and cheerful words. Again, she informed them of what Dr. Jones had explained earlier in the day, and she made sure the doctor returned to discuss our concerns. Amy came in numerous times to talk to me and my family. She never acted hurried. Just a professional, light-hearted empathy to calm our anxiety. Thank you for providing such a supportive, educated nurse who values humanity!
