If it was not for Amy's sympathy and grace for my situation and her comforting words, my bad experience would have been much worse.
I would Ilke to officially recognize a stellar member of your staff, Surgical Nurse Amy Berchenhoff, for her extreme acts of caring and kindness during my recent surgery at your facility, On September 20, 2024. I was a surgical patient in for a full knee replacement. I am also a retired Marine Corps Colonel and special operations offlcer, with a lot of combat time during my 30+ years of military service, These two facts are what created the event that Amy helped me through with calm compassion.
I had a very bad experience while waking up from general anesthesia. My PTSS kicked in and I was back In Afghanistan, thinking I was wounded and paralyzed (due to the spinal block I had also received). I was completely beside myself, not understanding where I was, what happened to me, or where my Marines were. Amy was there speaking with me, reassuring me, bringing me back to Texas, and explaining what I had just undergone and why I was numb from the waist down. If it was not for Amy's sympathy and grace for my situation and her comforting words, my bad experience would have been much worse.
Not only did she help me while in the PACU, she took additional time after her shift to find me on the floor to make sure I was doing well. That meant the world to me because in my state in the PACU I failed to thank her for her support and bringing me back to reality and her finding me gave me the chance to thank her properly,
Since retiring from the military in 2020, I've used BSW provlders and facilities in Lakeway, Round Rock, Buda, and Oak Hill. At each location the facilities and, more importantly, the entire staffs were phenomenal - professional, competent, and caring. Even with all the great experiences I've had with BSW personnel and facilities, Amy really went above and beyond and helped me when I was at my weakest. I just wanted you to know how appreciative I am for her kindness and compassion.
