Without Amelia's help, I truly do not believe our daughter would have the language she does now, which surpasses all of her providers' hopes.
Amelia has been with us for almost a year, and she has been an ever-present help for our family. Amelia shows up each day with a care for our daughter that goes beyond her job description, attending not only to our daughter's physical needs but also coming alongside us in growing her social, emotional, and communication skills.
Amelia has taught our daughter the joys of reading, played countless games of "magic," tugged her around on a sled in freezing temperatures, and even shares her "cracker snacks" to help build eating skills. Amelia is also a pillar of patience for the ever-growing demands of a toddler, showing care and compassion when a book is asked to be read for the umpteenth time or a need must be met 'right this second'!
This is not only true with our daughter, but also for us as parents! I have looked to Amelia countless times for guidance on how to communicate our needs with a provider or in understanding the reasons behind some of the more tedious tasks asked of us. She has also listened to my frustrations more times than I'm willing to admit and shows genuine compassion when the medical mom life can feel overwhelming.
What goes even further and what I will be forever grateful for is Amelia's willingness to learn a new language in order to give our little girl the ability to communicate with those around her. Our daughter cannot speak, and we, as parents, have decided to learn ASL to give her a language she can use. Immediately upon learning this, Amelia began looking up signs and using them with our daughter to help her communicate.
Every day, Amelia watches for useful nouns or verbs to learn and uses them so consistently that our daughter can pick up on a new sign within a day. It's a joy to come back from work and hear "We've been working on 'socks' today" and see our daughter's face light up when she shows us her new word!

With 60+ words and counting, our daughter can make her opinions known, and that just wouldn't be possible without Amelia.
