And here came Amee, doing what she was born to do.
Amee Marse started her journey with ASHEC as a unit secretary in the PACU. She has remained rooted in the ministry for many years, expanding her horizons by attending nursing school and mastering the art of multiple nursing specialties. She is now an operating room circulator, a nursing field that is often overlooked by the public, due to patients' inability to recall names and events from surgery and anesthesia for post operative recognition and praise. I'd like to nominate Amee for two significant reasons. I have personally had over 7 procedures performed at ASHEC, 5 of which were in the main OR, and I would choose Amee to be my nurse again, any day. She speaks up. She follows through. She participates in finding solutions to problems. She respects privacy and consistently supports the values of an Ascension nurse with reverence, creativity, wisdom, integrity, dedication, and service of the poor. Amee recently shared an event from my surgery from 5 years ago that shows how detail-oriented and professional she is, and I wish I had nominated her years ago. She treated me like family, which brings me to the second reason why Amee deserves the DAISY Award. I recently brought my mother here for a scope with Dr. F. She traveled all the way from Gulf Breeze, passing multiple facilities that were much closer to home. But I reassured her that she would receive superior care from staff and physicians. On the day of the procedure, my mom, who has never had a surgery, received general anesthesia and was visited by many amazing healthcare professionals. She (mom) does not speak medical lingo, so as you can imagine, it was overwhelming for her, in so many ways, to see and meet a plethora of new faces. Of those giant-hearted individuals, Amee came to my mom to get her for her procedure. There was a moment where I froze, hearing Amee speak to her; it brought me to a point of intense gratitude and appreciation. It was humbling. This is my mom, and I only have one. She spoke to her, explaining the procedure like she was speaking to her own mom. I just spent the last 24 hours awake, most of the night answering a million questions, helping her to feel safe, and attempting to eliminate all anxiety. And here came Amee, doing what she was born to do. She was peaceful, calming, and clear. It was in that moment of feeling humbled that I also felt proud and so very grateful to be a part of this family. Amee lives the mission of this hospital. She exhibits every value and is ever so deserving of The DAISY Award. As circulating nurses are rare to the DAISY Award panel, I am paying it forward. Thank you.
