June 2026 Honoree
Amber Purrington, BSN, RN, CBC
Amber is an incredible nurse and pregnancy navigator, and one who embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award in multiple facets. She specifically reinforced patient and family-centered care throughout each visit, ensuring that I felt comfortable and confident with the plan that was in place for my pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
I have friends who also had Amber as a pregnancy navigator, and they shared with me how much they enjoyed their visits with her. They explained how they were so excited to have someone who took the time to listen to their concerns, as well as ensuring that they felt confident and empowered in their decisions. This truly shows how she prioritizes patient-centered care and includes their families and loved ones during the visits.
Amber made sure to focus her education and visits on me and my daughter, but also ensured that my husband felt involved and comfortable with the information she was sharing. During our tour of the birth center, my husband shared his worries about the labor and delivery process, along with his anxieties related to different areas in the hospital and the birth center. Amber made sure he felt comfortable knowing where to go when I was in labor, and showed us each area of the birth center.
She also helped to alleviate anxiety by laughing and joking with us, and we still laugh about some of the things she said during our tour! He said that it made him feel so much more comfortable when we were in the hospital, and she was proud to be able to show my mom around the unit. This just goes to show how strong of a nurse she is, and how skilled she is at building confidence and supporting patients and their family members.
Amber is also incredibly compassionate and took the time to sit with me in my grief and emotions that I was experiencing with being pregnant after having experienced a traumatic miscarriage. I was scared and anxious, and expressed these fears to Amber during our initial call. She made sure I felt comfortable with the timing of when my OB appointments were scheduled, as well as ensuring that I knew what to watch out for if any issues or complications arose.
She took time to acknowledge and grieve my loss with me, and offer support for mental health if I felt like it would be beneficial. She also continued to check in with me and my mental health, and made a point to celebrate each milestone of pregnancy with me. She encouraged me in building my confidence through pregnancy. She truly was the biggest cheerleader and shoulder to cry on, all at the same time!
She never made me feel like I was a bother or that I was taking too much time, even though I’m sure she had an incredibly busy schedule. Her messages that she sent during the postpartum period also helped encourage me.
Amber was so kind, so reassuring, and such a calming presence. She was incredibly helpful through each step of my pregnancy journey. She took time to listen to my concerns and to help calm my anxieties with pregnancy and with the postpartum period.
Amber was giving tours at the Birth Center the day after I had my daughter, and stopped by my room to congratulate me and ask how my delivery went. This shows how she goes above and beyond for her patients and takes the time to make sure you feel cared for and heard. This is one of the things that makes her an incredible nurse, but not the only thing.
She deserves every award and nomination, and every patient should have the chance to be cared for by Amber! She was genuinely the most incredible nurse, and I am so thankful for everything she did for me, my daughter, and my husband.
Her kindness and genuine care for others truly exemplify the qualities of the DAISY award, and her compassion, dedication, empathy, and support are inspiring. She deserves to be recognized and celebrated!
