Amber recently floated to our unit and was the nurse for a complicated patient with suicidal ideation. This patient's story was emotionally distressing, and her ideation was still very active.

Amber communicated thoroughly with the behavioral emergency rapid response team nurses. Additionally, I personally witnessed Amber speaking calmly and in a soothing tone to the patient. Amber showed presence, squatting at her bedside for hours and walking with her around the unit. Amber advocated for the patient to see a psychiatrist.

They built so much trust that the patient confessed her plans to attempt to harm herself with the things in the room. She felt safe to express her feelings and anxiety. The way Amber cared for and advocated for this patient shows the highest level of compassion and dedication for this profession. I'm certain this patient would also thank Amber.
