She took the time to decorate our baby girl’s hospital bassinet, making it the same theme as her bedroom at home.
My wife was scheduled for an induction. After almost 2 days of trying multiple medications, we were still waiting for more progression in labor as we were at a standstill after my wife’s water broke. Though all the other nurses were nice, Amber was different. She walked in and asked how long we had been there and what alternative therapies had been attempted to potentially speed up the labor, as her water had broken about 5.5 hours prior. When she was told we had only received the medication and we’re just waiting, she wasted no time to grab the ball and brought in pamphlets of information on different positions.
She stayed in the room assisting my wife with the positions of sitting and bouncing to open the hips. Amber went through breathing exercises while my wife was bouncing on the ball. She also ran the bath and placed my wife on portable monitors for her comfort. She provided all the information we needed to try to progress labor and maintain as much comfort as possible. Once the Pitocin was indicated, Amber hung the medication quickly and frequently checked in the room to make sure my wife was okay. She kept my wife as comfortable as she could possibly be during labor. It took a while to progress to 4 cm, but as soon as my wife was able to get the epidural, she had made all the calls and messages to make it happen.
My wife was contracting at the beginning of the epidural procedure, and knowing she couldn’t move, Amber grabbed my wife into an embrace and rubbed her back, telling her it was okay and got her through the contraction without allowing interference in the procedure. My wife was close to delivering by shift change, and Amber kept checking as she stayed later to do paperwork, as she had to catch up from being in our room most of the time. She took the time to decorate our baby girl’s hospital bassinet, making it the same theme as her bedroom at home. She genuinely cared about my wife's success in delivery. We wish she were there for the birth. I can’t explain into words, and even describing it here it may seem like it was just her day to day job, but how she made my wife and I feel during her care could never be put into words.
My wife and I still shed tears about how kind she was and what an amazing nurse she is. She was genuine, kind, compassionate, honest, dedicated to her patients, caring, and performed tasks in a timely manner. She never let my wife feel embarrassed by anything and ensured that every part of labor was natural and nothing to be embarrassed about. My wife never felt any negative judgment or embarrassment, which was a significant reason we felt compelled to share our story in hopes that Amber would get noticed and rewarded for it. She really went above and beyond, spending most of the day in our room to provide the utmost care and attention to my wife throughout this first-time experience. She also cared for me, the patient's spouse, and ensured I was comfortable and had no needs. I was impressed with and thankful for her positivity, cheerful disposition, and kindness.
