Recently, we cared for a 94-year-old patient whose wife had passed away. He was being discharged in time to attend her funeral but was deeply concerned about his appearance, saying, “I can’t go to my bride’s departure looking shaggy.”

Amber took it upon herself to contact his barber and arranged for a haircut in his hospital room, ensuring he could honor his wife with dignity and grace. Amber’s kindness extends beyond patients. When another nurse had a flat tire and couldn’t make it to work, Amber called her own husband and asked him to help fix the tire so the nurse could fulfill her shift.

This act of generosity not only helped a colleague but also ensured continuity of care for our patients. Amber frequently uses her personal Uber account to help patients get home when all other transportation options have been exhausted. She never turns away anyone in need, even when it means falling behind in her own duties. Her selfless actions have earned praise from Radiology, Lab, ER, and housekeeping staff, all of whom describe her as someone who makes everyone feel valued and loved.
