Amber would get to her eye level and explain in a calming voice what to expect, and we noticed a change in "E" in being less scared and anxious.
Amber was an absolutely amazing nurse. Our daughter "E" has Crohn's and has been going through infusions since she was 5. She had to be hospitalized due to inflammation in the knee, which had to be operated on the next morning. Not only did "E" have an IV line, but she also had a drain line for her knee fluid, along with a huge bandage on her leg. Being that she is only 6 and really gets upset when she has to do anything from drawing blood, having to move her injured leg, or taking medicine, she was very stressed. Amber was her daytime nurse for 4 days and would always explain what was going to happen next with "E" . Amber would get to her eye level and explain in a calming voice what to expect, and we noticed a change in "E" in being less scared and anxious. Even "E" was excited when Amber would come on shift. This is not to say her other nurses weren’t great, but it was as though Amber went above and beyond to help our little girl get through pain and assist in getting her out of the hospital quicker.

When "E" wouldn’t take liquid, push herself to walk with her walker, she couldn’t wait to show Amber. Another example is how Amber reacted when "E" wouldn’t take liquid Oxy pain medicine. After many attempts from Amber and I to subdue "E" to just get the medicine in her mouth in an attempt to swallow, she spit out the medicine on her bed and on Amber. Amber just seemed disappointed and remained calm. I didn’t get spit on, and I was upset, so seeing that in Amber’s personality really meant a lot and even taught me that I should have more grace even for my child. It was nice to always have her ask if she could do anything for us. Even the people who came to visit "E", she would ask them if she could get them anything. Thank you, Amber, for being such an amazing, kind, and selfless nurse. Coming from my in-laws, wife, and "E", we thank you.
