Amara took care of my mom-in-law, P.L. She was so efficient in every care she provided. She works independently even with duties that can be delegated to PCTs, she did it all by herself. From wiping mom's bottom every diarrheal movement, wound care of a stage 4 Decub, foley care, meds were given on time, assisted in feeding her, making sure that her instructions were understood by families. She brought in another staff that can interpret for the family. She talks to us with respect, as a member of the healthcare team. She also has a sense of humor. My mom-in-law kept saying "Apo Dios" (Filipino Dialect which is also "Oh! My Lord!" in English) when she hurts. Her nurse would ask if she wants 'apple juice'.

The best event that made me salute her was when our nanang (mother) almost had a "rushed discharge". She almost got discharged to this son who she used to live with. Amara and I had an eerie feeling about this discharge. I'm glad she spoke out and said she does think this is a rush discharge and it is not safe. As the caregivers did not demonstrate that they will be able to provide the proper technique in wound care (Sacral Decub Stage 4) and the emptying of the foley bag. The discharge planner never met the family too to evaluate the proper disposition of discharge. Whether she need SNF or just home base care. I also noticed that my mom-in-law at that very moment became anxious. She never expected to be discharged that very day.

I commend Amara for stopping the discharge. Amara expedited the request for a discharge planner and had one come to see her. The D/C planner did an awesome job for my mom in law's discharge plan and she does qualify for SNF criteria. I believe that is the right discharge disposition for her. If she was discharged that day to the son's house, it could have been a readmission to our hospital.

Amara is taking care of an Asian old woman that barely speaks english. And she provided an excellent, compassionate, quality care.

Amara is the kind of nurse I want if I will be a patient. In her hands, I know I am safe and well-cared. I hope that all nurses are like her. She is a great model.
