After a very urgent ER visit recently, I was admitted to room 3156 at St. Joseph's North with a small bowel obstruction, and fitted with a nasal gastro tube. I was discharged with great results and I am now returning to normal activities.
During my hospital stay, I initially had some reservations about the staff that caused me some concern. Amanda was assigned to my room-plan of care and those concerns I had disappeared to never return. Immediately I felt very comfortable with her knowledge, obvious compassion for how I felt and her interest in me understanding what was going on and answering any questions that I may have. The display of professionalism, compassion, nursing skills and overall care of a patient by one individual is something that St. Joseph's North should be deeply proud of.
As the days progressed with the nasal gastro tube I became increasingly irritable and uncomfortable. Amanda immediately recognized my situation and gathered herself and other staff to go "above and beyond" to reduce my uncomfortable situation. Her repeated display of teamwork and willingness to help out most definitely qualifies as a "Class Act"-Attitude, Courtesy, and Teamwork!
I continued to receive individualized care, full of compassion that was centered on my needs and which certainly exceeded my expectations. I was kept up to date on my progress that I was making and what the next steps would be. Her clinical skills exemplify what a role model should be in this type of profession. It is obvious to me that Amanda is deeply committed to her position and the patients she cares for. Having been hospitalized before I can say with conviction that the feeling of comfort and safe nature was very pleasant during my time at St Joseph's North.
From the small requests and questions that I had (I am certainly not the easiest one to deal with) right down to the removal of the nasal gastro tube and coordination efforts and communications by Amanda to keep my patient care and well-being forefront I consider her to be an outstanding role model for the nursing community. She displays very "Extraordinary" nursing skills.
All the way through to my discharge papers, providing me with a flu shot before leaving, extra gown when needed and numerous other positive, caring, answered questions Amanda was nothing short of "outstanding".
All I can say again is Thank You! To the entire staff at St. Joseph's North and especially Amanda for "Extraordinary" patient care.
