Her presence brought us comfort and reassurance in a time of uncertainty.
My brother was brought into the hospital unconscious with a head injury that required emergency surgery. Afterward, he was admitted to the ICU, where we met Amanda. On what became one of the hardest days of our lives, Amanda made an unbearable situation a little more bearable. From the start, she was compassionate, kind, and incredibly patient. Amanda cared for my brother, D, with the utmost professionalism while precepting a new nurse and seamlessly handling doctors’ orders. Despite the constant demands, she never showed frustration or rushed us. She took the time to answer our many questions – sometimes the same ones over and over - as we tried to process what was happening. She explained D’s vital signs and the monitors in terms we could understand, always keeping us well informed. Her presence brought us comfort and reassurance in a time of uncertainty. What stood out most was the way Amanda made us feel supported, cared for, and not alone. She showed true compassion not just for my brother, but for our entire family. Even as things went from bad to worse, she remained steady, compassionate, and present. Amanda stayed with us all day, right up until D took his last breath. Having her by our side during that time is something we will never forget. Her kindness, skill, and unwavering dedication exemplify the very best of nursing. Amanda is a true example of what it means to be a DAISY Nurse, and we are forever grateful for the care and compassion she gave our family.
