I am proud to nominate Amanda Morgan, RN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary compassion, clinical excellence, and unwavering advocacy for her patients.
Amanda consistently goes beyond the expected role of a nurse. She combines exceptional clinical skill with a deeply personal approach to care, ensuring that every patient feels safe, respected, and truly heard. Her calm presence during high-stress situations reassures not only her patients but also their families and colleagues. She has an incredible ability to anticipate needs, respond proactively, and advocate fiercely for the best possible outcomes.
One particular experience truly highlights the heart Amanda brings to nursing: Amanda was caring for an elderly patient who had been admitted unexpectedly and was struggling emotionally with the loss of independence. The patient was overwhelmed, frightened, and repeatedly expressed worry about being a burden to her family. Amanda took the time—despite a busy assignment—to sit at the bedside and simply listen. She learned that the patient had been scheduled to attend her granddaughter’s wedding that weekend and feared she would miss it.
Rather than letting that moment pass, Amanda took action. She coordinated with the care team to ensure the patient’s medical needs were stabilized and reached out to the family to explore options. On the day of the wedding, Amanda helped arrange a video call so the patient could attend the ceremony virtually. She made sure the patient was comfortable, helped her dress in a favorite outfit brought from home, and even adjusted the room lighting to make the experience feel special. Amanda stayed nearby to ensure everything worked smoothly and to share in the moment.
